HEI issues RFA 20-1 Health Effects of Air Pollution

HEI has issued Request for Applications 20-1, Health Effects of Air Polution, to invite applications on novel and important aspects of the health effects of air pollutants. HEI is particularly interested in applications on the following topics: accountability or effectiveness of air quality regulations; strengthening causal interpretation of evidence from existing cohorts; and contributions of wildland and agricultural burning to air quality and health. Quality science to inform decisions does not just happen — it takes a careful strategic effort, drawing from the best minds in policy and science to ensure that the most relevant answers can be produced in time for key upcoming decisions. HEI is now preparing to develop its Strategic Plan for Understanding the Health Effects of Air Pollution for the years 2020 to 2025. In the process it will draw on ideas from sponsors, the scientific community, and the broader community of environmental and other stakeholders.

HEI requests applications for Accountability research and New Investigator Award

HEI has issued two requests for applications: RFA 18-1: Assessing Health Effects of Air Quality Actions at the National, Regional, and Local Levels solicits the next round of accountability studies to evaluate the effectiveness of measures to improve air quality in improving public health. RFA 18-2: Walter Rosenblith New Investigator Award solicits proposals from applicants at the Assistant Professor level for research on air pollution and health. Two important new HEI studies underway

November 7, 2018

HEI has funded two new studies under a general request for applications (RFA 17-2) on the health effects of air pollution. Dr. Amir Hakami and colleagues will perform a health impact assessment of decreased emissions of various pollutants. Dr. Roel Vermeulen and colleagues will conduct a large cohort study investigating long-term air pollution and cause-specific mortality in Asia.
