Study examines role of social stressors in air pollution–disease links

July 30, 2021

HEI has published Research Report 206, Social Susceptibility to Multiple Air Pollutants in Cardiovascular Disease, which presents a study led by Dr. Jane Clougherty at Dornsife School of Public Health, Drexel University. Clougherty and colleagues examined whether associations between community- and individual-level cardiovascular disease events and ambient air pollutants vary by social stressors.

HEI welcomes communications director to staff

HEI is pleased to welcome Tom Champoux to a new staff position, Director of Science Communications. Champoux joined HEI on July 26. He will expand on the roles filled by Hilary Polk, who retired in May as Managing Editor after many successful years at HEI.

The Health Effects Institute (HEI), the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE),https://mu-plovdiv.bg/en/ the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the Medical University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and environmental health institutions in Serbia will jointly host a virtual workshop on June 8-9, 2021 (1-4 PM CET) to review the status of current evidence on the health effects of air pollution in the Southeast European region and its interlinkage to current policy debate and actions.
