Now Accepting Fellowship Application

HEI is excited to launch its Summer Fellowship Program for a third year! The program supports undergraduate students from backgrounds underrepresented in the environmental health sciences to pursue research in this area. Fellows are matched with mentors for a 10-week paid fellowship in summer 2025. The program is run in collaboration with the International Society of Exposure Science and the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology.

The fellowship provides research opportunities in environmental health sciences, including: environmental exposure assessment, environmental epidemiology, public health, and environmental justice.


Benefits of the Fellowship:

  • Spend the summer developing and conducting research alongside a mentor at an academic institution or nonprofit organization.
  • Collaborate with a mentor who is committed to your success.
  • Receive a $8,000 stipend for a 10-week fellowship.
  • Access to office hours for personalized assistance.
  • Engage in valuable career discussions with your mentor and peers.


Who Should Apply:
Potential applicants should self-identify as coming from one or more of the following groups:

  • Indigenous or underrepresented race or ethnicity group in environmental health research as defined by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).
  • Individuals with disabilities (physical or mental impairments that substantially limit major life activities).
  • Other socially disadvantaged groups (first generation to attend college, sexual orientation/gender identity, or other).
