Yukyan Lam
Research Director and Senior Scientist, Tishman Center at the New School
Yukyan Lam is Research Director and Senior Scientist at The New School's Tishman Environment & Design Center, where she oversees the Center's portfolio of climate and environmental justice research and technical assistance. Her recent work has focused on investigating the cumulative impacts of environmental and social injustices in low-income communities and communities of color in the United States. Her expertise includes public health, spatial analysis, community-based science, and qualitative research methods. In her last position as Director of Community Science at the Natural Resources Defense Council, she provided technical capacity to environmental justice organizations to support their policy advocacy at the local, state and federal levels. In 2019, Yukyan received the American Public Health Association’s Rebecca A. Head Award, which recognizes an emerging leader working at the nexus of science, policy, and environmental justice. Yukyan has also conducted research and advocacy on human rights, health, and environmental challenges in Latin America and Bangladesh. She holds a BS in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a JD from Harvard Law School, and a PhD from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is currently an Associate with the Department of International Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and an Adjunct Professor of Law at NYU School of Law.
