Guiding Principles for Engagement with Local Communities in HEI-Funded Studies
Purpose
This guide specifies broad principles for investigators funded by HEI to conduct effective engagement with local communities and to enhance the utility for the research for decision-making by multiple sectors. In this document, “communities” is defined as individuals and groups who are potentially affected by or interested in the research. HEI engages with individuals and groups from multiple sectors including local community groups and community members, government, industry, nongovernmental organizations, and academia. For a high-level view of how HEI engages multiple sectors in its research planning and dissemination processes, please visit our About HEI page.
Intended Users
The guide is intended for use by HEI funded investigators, staff, committees, panels, and councils to convey the investigator’s role in delivering high-quality, credible science.
