HEI seeks applications for Jane Warren Trainee Conference Award

HEI is inviting applications for the Jane Warren Trainee Conference Award for its 2021 Annual Conference. This award, previously known as the HEI Travel Award, is named in remembrance of Dr. Jane Warren, who joined HEI in the 1980s and led HEI’s scientific activities as Director of Science from 1999 until her retirement in 2008.

Up to six award winners will be invited to give a talk on their research and attend a related virtual networking event as part of HEI’s Annual Conference Webinar series. Awardees will be selected on a competitive basis after a review of the application and a 500-word abstract (see abstract instruction PDF below). Limit one abstract per applicant. The award winner must be the first author and presenter.

Eligibility

• Awardees should be graduate students or postdoctoral scholars at academic or research institutions. The award includes the opportunity to present research at an HEI webinar, as well as a cash prize of $500 to be used for professional development activities including, but not limited to, membership in a professional society, attending a workshop or conference, and undertaking professional development courses.
• The applicant’s research should not be currently funded by HEI;
• The applicant’s research must be related to HEI’s research interests in air pollution, exposure, and health (as described in the Strategic Plan for 2020–2025); and
• The applicant must be able to attend the Jane Warren Trainee Conference Award Webinar on Thursday, May 13, 2021 (10 AM – 12 PM EDT).

Selection Criteria

• Scientific merit and writing quality of the abstract; and
• Relevance to, or advancement of, HEI’s research interests in air quality and health.
