Homer A. Boushey
Emeritus Professor of Medicine, University of California–San Francisco
Homer Boushey is a retired member of the Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine, Director of the Asthma Clinical Research Center, and Chief of the Division of Allergy and Immunology at the University of California–San Francisco (UCSF). He is recognized internationally for his work in the field of pulmonary medicine. His distinguished career spans more than three decades of clinical care, teaching, and clinical research, focused on the effects of exposure to air pollutants, allergens, and viruses, and the pathogenesis and treatment of asthma, bronchitis, and other diseases of the lungs and airways. He is a past president (2003–2004) of the American Thoracic Society and served on the National Institutes of Health expert panel that developed national guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of asthma. He continues to serve on numerous scientific advisory committees. He chaired the HEI Review Committee for two terms, from 2006 to 2014.
Dr. Boushey received in his MD degree from UCSF in 1968. He completed residency training in internal medicine there and at the Beth-Israel Hospital of Harvard Medical School. He then pursued specialty training in pulmonary medicine at Oxford University and at UCSF, where he has been on the faculty since 1974.
