New health studies launched on traffic-related air pollution exposure, diesel fleet turnover

HEI is pleased to announce the launch of five studies it is funding as the result of two separate research solicitations: Request for Applications 23-1, Assessing Health Effects of Traffic-Related Air Pollution (TRAP); and Request for Qualifications 24-1, Benefits Assessment of Accelerated Turnover of the On-Road Diesel Vehicle Fleet in the United States.

HEI launches three new studies on effects of emissions-reduction policies for historically marginalized communities

HEI is pleased to announce three new studies funded under RFA 23-2, Assessing Changes in Exposures and Health Outcomes in Historically Marginalized and Environmentally Overburdened Communities from Air Quality Actions, Programs, or Other Interventions. This body of research will provide answers about whether recent air quality actions taken at the state and federal levels equitably improve emissions, air quality, and health for historically marginalized communities potentially affected by the growing goods and freight movement.

HEI-funded research played important role in European Union’s adoption of new air quality standards to improve public health

October 15, 2024

The European Union’s (EU) revised Ambient Air Quality Directive sets new air quality standards for EU countries to achieve by 2030 for major pollutants to align more closely with the latest World Health Organization guidelines. Findings on low-level air pollution exposure, particularly the findings from an HEI-funded study of 28 million participants in Europe, played an important role in informing the new EU air quality standards

Ambient PM Health Effects Research Funding Opportunity

HEI is pleased to inform you of a new funding opportunity RFA 24-2: Insights into the Health Effects of Exposure to Low Concentrations of Particulate Matter. The RFA will focus on studies that can help to distinguish between potential sources of heterogeneity or to clarify the biological plausibility of PM health effects at low levels of ambient exposure.
