New report examines household air pollution and health risk in Ghana

2019

HEI has released Communication 19, Contribution of Household Air Pollution to Ambient Air Pollution in Ghana: Using Available Evidence to Prioritize Future Action, which describes a study led by scientists as part of HEI’s Ghana Working Group. The Working Group evaluated the contribution of household air pollution to ambient fine particle air pollution in Ghana as well as its impact on health. To do this, they synthesized nine detailed analyses on source apportionment and discussed the resources available for estimating source contributions to ambient PM2.5. The Summary for Policy Makers presents the main conclusions of Communication 19 and identifies strategic opportunities to address the issue(s). More information about household air pollution can also be found in Communication 18, which evaluates a link with non-communicable diseases.
