Unconventional Oil & Natural Gas - Second Public Workshop, December 2014

December 10, 2014

Understanding Potential Impacts of 21st Century Oil and Gas Development In The Appalachian Basin: Research Needs.

Public Workshop, December 10, 2014, Wheeling, WV

This second of three public workshops provided an opportunity for the HEI Special Scientific Committee to hear from interested members of academia, industry, government, and non-governmental organizations regarding their (1) recommendations for scientific research to better understand the potential impacts of 21st century oil and gas development in the Appalachian Basin; and (2) criteria that may be used to prioritize research alternatives. The workshop was timed to allow for this input just as the HEI Committee had released its draft report, The Potential Impacts of 21st Century Oil and Gas Development in the Appalachian Basin: First Steps Toward a Strategic Research Plan pdf and before it began development of its Strategic Scientific Research Plan. In addition, all workshop participants heard from speakers knowledgeable about potential impacts on communities and the evolution of oil and gas industry practice and technology. Organizational support was provided by the University of Pittsburgh Institute of Politics.
